Paris, the capital of
France, is unbeatable for its auction-houses (Hôtel Drouot), and,
its antique dealers (the St Ouen flea-market, the "Louvre des
antiquaires") and its museums. But the French provinces conceal
numerous treasures. It is our task to guide you according to your
wishes.
We can organise, following your inclinations, an "à la carte" stay,
enabling you unearth the antiques you would like to have directly
"at the source", whether at auction-sales or from antique dealers or
from flea markets.
Our tour programmes are organised so that you will be able to
discover new places in as little time as possible: places as varied
as auction-houses, antique fairs, flea markets and clearance sales
in a district area including PARIS, LILLE and BRUSSELS.
Our programmes include a visit to auction sales rarely attended by
foreigners and yet it is at these sales that you will find a wide
choice of furniture and ancient art objects in all fields and from
all periods (coming directly from private French collections).
In Paris, the "Hotel Drouot" is the most important, but you will
also discover other sale-rooms in the Paris region and in the
provinces: you will be able to buy your antiques at the best price
and with guarantees of authenticity.
In Paris, we also propose to take you on a visit to a flea market,
the "Louvre des antiquaires" and the professionals on the left bank
(the most prestigious antique dealers in France). In the provinces,
we will take you to "wholesales" clearances sales which, in France,
are reserved for professionals of antique trade and to auction
houses located between Paris and Brussels.

Our experience in the world of antiques enables us to give you our
assessment of objects presented: price and authenticity.
Our principle is not to take any commission from the sales-people we
introduce you to: in this way you will obtain a better reduction. We
are not antique dealers: our position with regard to them is
therefore independent.
As soon as you arrive in France, we will let you browse though
updated auction-house catalogues so that you can select the sales
that interest you.
According to your wishes and your objectives we will thus be able to
offer you a personalised stay.
Depending on the calendar at the time, we will accompany you to an
antique fair or a clearance sale reserved for dealers. We will also
take care of forwarding and insuring of your purchases by
specialised conveyors and transporters.
As soon as your stay is confirmed, we can attend to the reservation
of the hotel rooms and restaurants you have selected as well as
sightseeing visits or cultural events.
A fortnight before your arrival in France, we shall finalise your
programme according to the artistic activity of the moment and to
your tastes. We will give you up-to-date information on event which
seem to correspond best to your expectations: sale catalogues,
professional clearance sales, antique flairs, and so on.
Our tariffs are not inclusive of hotels, restaurants and the
entrance fees of the clearance sales or antiques fairs.
*Payment should be made by bank transfer.

Antique Buying Tours
Individual departures through the year
BELGA TRADERS is now offering a program for antique salvage and
antique buying tours to England. Antique salvage are items which
come from old buildings that have been dismantled. They consist of
anything from fire places, doors, windows, floors, lamps, mirrors,
fountains, garden sculpture to bricks, stones, fencing and much
more. They are elaborate and beautiful antiques. If you are
interested in being introduced to some of the best places in and
around London, we can set up a private tour for you. The tours are
geared to private collectors, antique dealers, interior decorators,
and architects. You will visit some of the best salvage yards in
London and in the surrounding areas. Although, antique salvage is
the main theme, you will also visit dealers in fine antiques.
Shipping to a U.S. port will be taken care of for you. In the event
that you have a small group, containerized shipping can be arranged
to save costs. Although they are buying tours, they are not all
business and no play, sightseeing along the way will take you to
places others tourists never see, and of course there is London with
plenty of time each evening to enjoy the city. The itinerary below
is a suggested itinerary and can be altered as to your particular
interests and time limitations. We can also arrange for an escorted
tour if you so desire.
EUROPEAN ANTIQUE
BUYING TOURS
Intensive seven-day
antique trip will comb Leipzig, Prague and the hinterlands of
Bohemia and Germany. Shipping included. First in a series of
escorted buying tours planned for 2006
“Our April trip is ideal for the dealer, designer, collector or
antiques buff who wants a focused tour with lots of buying
opportunities,“ said Tom Conrad, whose company, Heart of Europe
Tours (www.belgatraders.com), will lead five antique tours to Europe
this year. The spring trip runs from April 25 – May 1, 2006.
“We offer new destinations, a brisk pace and hot sources in a region
of Europe where most American antique lovers never venture,” says
Conrad.
“We designed the April tour with a single-minded focus on antique
markets and larger dealers with lots of furniture and smalls” says
Conrad. The group will visit wholesalers, trade sources and the two
biggest and best antiques markets in southeastern Germany and the
Czech Republic.
The escorted tour includes Leipzig and Prague as well as several
small towns and villages in Franconia and Saxony (Germany) and
Bohemia (Czech Republic). “We’ll help participants wring the most
out of their seven days on the antiques trail,” says Conrad. The
stops include
ANTIQUE BUYING TOURS
IN FRANCE FROM THE UK
• A huge
Stalinist-era mill with four floors of painted furniture,
accessories and smalls;
• Three Prague warehouses loaded with 19th century, Secessionist,
Deco and postwar treasures, and a dealer who specializes in
Biedermeier; Louis Philippe, Baroque and other classical antiques;
• An old tile-factory-turned-antique-warehouse in the former East
Germany which features smalls, farm antiques, restored and
un-restored furniture, artifacts and collectible treasures;
• Wholesale dealers in the Bohemian countryside with upwards of
3000m2 of furniture, Black Forest items, pottery, glass, porcelain,
architectural elements and more;
• A 14th Century “Antiques Castle,” which serves as a combined
warehouse-store-workshop for a dealer couple;
• Antique markets that attract up to 1000 sellers from across
Germany, the Czech Republic and other countries
The group travels by chartered coach. Airport transfers, ground
transportation, accommodations, breakfast and some meals are
included in the tour. The trip starts and ends in Frankfurt.
Transatlantic container shipping is included.
"We see antiques, collectibles, art and furnishings in all price
ranges, from all periods and in all styles -- formal, high style,
vernacular, relaxed, country and everything in between,” according
to Conrad. Prices are friendly and purchases are tax free because
the items are for export.
Some slots are still available on the April tour. Space is limited
and reservations are handled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Information is available online or by phone.
Central Europe is a terrific new spot for affordable antiques,
collectibles, toys, furnishings, art, jewelry and other treasures in
every price range, according to the company.
“Western European dealers are beginning to discover this region, but
virtually no Americans shop there, “according to Conrad. “We are the
only group offering antique tours to this part of the Continent.”
The 2006 trips include
- Antiques Escape, April 25-May 1
- Achtung! Antiques, May 7-16
- Czechmania! May 18-25
- Summer Antiques Extravaganza, July 23-August 3
- Fall Antiques Extravaganza, September 26-October 7
The tours are designed to take the stress out of antiquing, says
Conrad. Transatlantic shipping is included. “We take care of the
details so participants can focus on ‘the hunt,’” he said.
The trips are designed for seasoned antiquers and people who are new
to antiques and collectibles. The company also offers a beer and
brewery tour and a tour of German Christmas markets. |
